2012 taurus world stunt awards - Winners & Nominees

In the tradition of Hollywood’s finest awards presentations, the best stuntwomen and men in the entertainment industry will be recognized for their extraordinary performances in feature films of 2011.

Best Fight

  • Drive Angry

    Description

    Two women and a man fight inside a narrow RV using kicks and punches. One stuntwoman was thrown from the vehicle and a second stuntwoman jumped from the window onto the hood of an oncoming car.

    Description

    Two men face off in a bare knuckle fight in a warehouse, crashing into props, breakaway walls and windows.

  • Killer Elite

    Description

    Three men fight each other with one man tied to a chair, one man hand-cuffed and one man armed. Various kicks and punches enhance the fight. The man tied to a chair flips and kicks his way to disable the other men and escape.

  • The Green Hornet

    Description

    The Green Hornet and Kato fight each other and destroy a few rooms in the process. They land on tables and use props to attack each other. The fight ends when they fall into a pool.

  • The Mechanic

    Description

    Two men fight in an apartment, throwing each other into tables, walls, countertops, a refrigerator and a tempered glass railing. Props utilized were a belt, a drawer, beer bottles, a screwdriver, and a fireplace shovel in a battle to the death.

Best High Work

  • Fast Five

    Description

    Two men jump from a falling car into the water. The stuntmen were connected to a fan descender and jumped 160’ to the water below. They fell at full speed and entered the water with a 20% reduction. CGI was used to add the Corvette falling into the water.

    Description

    A rooftop chase featuring a 17’ leap from one building to a ladder on another building. Wires were used for safety but not to assist.

    Description

    Stuntman runs and leaps from a rooftop 90’ high to a scaffolding 20’ below. As he hits the scaffolding it collapses and he descends 50’ through breakaway debris, finally holding on to a piece of pipe.

    Swan dive off an 85’ cliff into the water below.

    Description

    Two stuntmen jump off a building and use a descender to fall approximately 300′ before coming to a hard stop.

Best work with a vehicle

  • Fast Five

    Description

    Three cars overtake a prison bus causing it to swerve, hit the back of a car and turn over. Stunt was done in 2 parts. The first part had all of the cars overtaking the bus and doing slides. The second part placed an unoccupied car in the road for the bus to fire the cannon. The bus was traveling 60mph and it took 3 air cannons to turn over.

    Description

    A police SUV flips 5 times after a street lamp is knocked into its path. The SUV was traveling 50mph and used a powder cannon to turn over.

    Two vehicles tow a large bank vault through city streets. The vault was really an allwheel steering vehicle and the cables connecting the cars and the vault were CGI.

    Description

    Various cars chase the Green Hornet and Kato through city streets, highway, parking lots and between buildings.

    Description

    A car jumps from a ramp to the ground across a canal. Nitrous oxide booster was used since the run up was so short and the car flew 102’ to the other side.

  • Cowboys & Aliens

    Description

    A horse-drawn wagon is turned over in a rush to flee aliens. The driver had to make a hard turn around the corner. No CGI was used for the turnover.

    Description

    Two men are yanked off galloping horses. Ratchets were used to pull them 80’ into the air from the horses.

    Description

    A bank vault appears to be dragged through the city streets in a destructive car chase. The bank vault was really an all wheel steering vehicle and the cables connecting the cars and the vault were CGI.

  • Jack and Jill

    Description

    A jet ski jumps out of a pool and lands on patio furniture. The stunt was shot in a tank with green screen. An I-beam wire rig pulled the jet ski underwater with the rider. In a separate shot, the jet ski and rider are underwater and a speed winch pulls the jet ski out as the rider is pulled at same time on a separate wire rig 15’ high and decelerated fast to the hard deck.

    A woman is thrown from a train into water below. Stuntwoman jumped from a platform placed on a bridge that was 65’ above the river. CGI was used to put in the train but no wires were used.

    A stuntwoman is ratcheted into a beam. The beam was padded for safety.

    Description

    A stuntwoman jumps 35′ down and 25′ out to land on top of a large metal destroyer. She is flipped off the destroyer, hitting the street and eventually sent backwards over a car.

Hardest hit

  • Fast Five

    Description

    At the end of a fight, a stuntman is tackled and pushed through a window and lands on a table. Both stuntmen were ratcheted through the tempered glass window. They landed on a breakaway table and crashed into a 2” foam mat, dressed to look like the floor.

    A stuntman is ratcheted back into a tree and falls, hitting branches on the way down.

    Description

    While tied to a chair, a stuntman jumps from a 2nd story window and lands on the roof of a truck below. The stuntman was on a goldtail descender and a small pad was incorporated into the roof of the truck.

    Stuntman is hit by a SUV traveling 18 mph in a sandstorm.

    A solider is hit with a tomahawk and lands on the ground. The entire performance was real and no wires were used.
