2019 Taurus World Stunt Awards Event

The winners of the 2019 Taurus World Stunt Awards were announced on Saturday, May 11, 2019 during a presentation at Paramount Pictures Studios in Hollywood, California. Stunt men and women from around the world honored their peers for a year of outstanding work in feature films.

The films Mission: Impossible – Fallout and Deadpool 2 each won 2 awards during the night. Mission: Impossible – Fallout garnered Taurus awards in the Best Stunt Rigging and Best Stunt Coordination and/or 2nd Unit Direction categories. Deadpool 2 took home the Taurus awards for Best Specialty Stunt and Hardest Hit. A sequence from Aquaman featuring a heroine running across rooftops and eventually crashing through a roof into a wine shop was nominated 3 times and won in the Best Overall Stunt by a Stunt Woman category. The French film Taxi 5 took home the award for Best Action in a Foreign Film.

The Lifetime Achievement Award was awarded to Billy Burton, a talented stuntman, stunt coordinator and 2nd unit director. Billy started ranching and found success on the rodeo circuit but soon moved to Hollywood. Many of the film and television productions at the time were Westerns so he was able to find steady work as a stuntman and extra. In 1970, Billy became one of the original members of Stunts Unlimited.  In 1976 and 1978, Billy won the World Stuntman’s Competition on CBS Sports Spectacular, competing in motorcycle, car, and horse work for the award. From there, Billy transitioned into directing action sequences for film. He has brought numerous memorable sequences to life, including an exhilarating boat chase between Nicholas Cage and John Travolta in Face-Off and the iconic motorcycle chase in Mission: Impossible 2 with Tom Cruise. His directing credits include Mission: Impossible 2, The Scorpion King, Collateral Damage, Hostage, and more. With over 50 years as a stuntman, stunt coordinator, and 2nd unit director, Billy considers his career a great ride.

It is our pleasure to congratulate the 2019 Taurus World Stunt Awards winners!
